Our Team

Dr. Tanya Jones-Greenwood grew up on her family farm south of Czar and has been a patient with Prairie Vision since she was a child. After receiving her Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Alberta in 2006 and her Optometry Doctorate from Indiana University in 2010, she returned home. “I love our local communities and the small-town atmosphere, I couldn’t think of a better place to work and start a family.” In 2012 she began partial ownership of the office and in 2014 she became sole owner. “This is where I grew up, I love caring for the people in my community and want to see us bring big city technology and skills to our office yet keep the warm and friendly atmosphere.”

Dr. Jones-Greenwood has a special interest in working with children and within the area of vision therapy. She has attended many additional courses listed below. She is a member of the Canadian Optometrists in Vision Therapy and Rehabilitation, the College of Optometrists in Vision Development and the Optometric Extension Program Foundation.

Outside of the office she enjoys raising her four children with her husband and catching up with family and friends. Dr. Jones-Greenwood’s favorite eyewear line is Paradox and Etnia Barcelona.

Dr. Meghan Martyna grew up in St. Albert, Alberta. She attended undergraduate courses at Augustana Campus of the University of Alberta before achieving her Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science. Dr. Martyna worked in Edmonton after graduation and moved to Wainwright in 2014. “I love the close-knit feel of the community in Wainwright and its surrounding areas. At Prairie Vision, we work to foster that community feeling, while still providing ‘big city’ comprehensive eye care with state-of-the-art technology,” Dr. Martyna said, “Wainwright is a great place to work and I look forward to raising children here as my family grows.”

Dr. Martyna is happy to see all types of patients including patients with dry eye, glaucoma, diabetes, or cataracts. She also has an interest in working with children or patients with head injuries who would benefit from vision therapy and visual rehabilitation. Dr. Martyna has spent time taking additional courses in these areas to help broaden her knowledge and expertise. She strives to continue learning the newest and best practices in optometry so she can always provide the best care to her patients.

When Dr. Martyna is not at the office, she enjoys spending time with her husband, family, and friends… all the better if that combines the occasional pick-up basketball, curling, and volleyball games. Dr. Martyna’s favorite eyewear line is WOOW.

Dr. Alicia Varghese was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Biological Sciences at the University of Alberta.

She then moved to Waterloo to pursue her Doctor of Optometry from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science. During her time in Waterloo, she participated in a mission trip to Ecuador to provide eye care to communities where eye health examinations are not as easily accessible. Dr. Varghese also had the opportunity to participate in an internship at the OMNI Eye Specialists in Baltimore where she gained diverse experience in advanced eye care and ocular disease management.

She is passionate about patient education and communication is always engaged in continuous learning. Through her optometric training, she is up to date with the current technologies and has a special interest in pediatric eye care.

In her spare time, she likes to read, bake, travel, and spend time with family and friends. Dr. Varghese’s favorite eyewear lines are Etnia Barcelona and WOOW.

Our Staff

Jennifer was born and raised in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. With a diploma in Medical Administration in hand, she headed out to Wainwright, AB, in the fall of 2005 and hasn’t looked back since.

Jennifer joined the Prairie Vision team in 2008 and became a Certified Optometric Assistant in 2012. She loves “learning something new every day” and is always up for the challenge of learning a new skill, which helped her work in many different areas of the office; currently serving as the Office Manager. Jennifer was honored to be rewarded the Alberta Optometric Assistant of the year reward by the Alberta Association of Optometrists in 2016.

When she is not at work, she loves spending time with her partner Adam and their “herd” of 6 kids, watching her boys play hockey and learning all about farming. Jennifer’s favorite eyewear lines are WOOW and Etnia Barcelona.

Kara was born in BC but was raised in Alberta and as much as she loves it, she will always miss the mountains. After graduating high school, she found the love of her life and became a stay at home mom raising her 4 beautiful children. She spent several years on the East coast before moving to Wainwright with her family in 2015. She quickly fell in love with the town she now calls home. With her all kids in school, she began working toward earning her Accelerated Accounting Certificate through SAIT and only has a few courses to go. She joined the Prairie Vision Team in the fall of 2019 as the Patient Retention Coordinator. She loves that she gets to spend her days connecting with all the wonderful patients and being surrounded by such a great team of women.

When Kara isn’t working, she is busy running her large family around, with football season being the busiest. She still always has time for good friends, good food, good wine and a good book. Kara’s favorite eyewear lines are Etnia Barcelona and Easyclip

Kathryn was born and raised in Wainwright, Alberta and proud to call it her home. She went to Lakeland College in Vermillion for Early Learning and Childcare and worked briefly in the daycares and Elementary schools in the area, which she finds beneficial to the position she’s in now. She started at Prairie Vision in the summer of 2015 and is now currently the full time Vision Therapist. In 2017, she was a part of the inaugural class of Vision Therapy Canada’s PracticalVision Therapy Accreditation Program. She enjoys working with the patients that come to our office, especially the kids she sees every week for Vision Therapy. When she’s not at the office, she’s with friends and family or you can find her glued to the TV watching NHL during the winter. Kathryn’s favorite eyewear line is Maui Jim.

Lisa was born and raised just outside of Wainwright. Shortly after graduating, she started at Lakeland College where she obtained her Business Administration Accounting Diploma before joining the Prairie Vision team in October 2015. Lisa enjoys taking on new challenges and expanding her knowledge throughout the office. In 2018 she completed her course and became recognized by the Alberta Association of Optometrists as a Canadian Certified Optometric Assistant.

When she's not at work, she enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, D.I.Y. decorating her house, and wedding planning with her fiancé for their upcoming wedding in 2021. Lisa’s favorite eyewear line is Silhouette.

Marie has worked at Prairie Vision (formerly Dr. Baker) since the fall of 1996.  Marie has worked in pretest and welcome centre and staff supervision. Now you will find her mostly behind the scenes as the account manager,  taking care of the accounting and assisting with staff planning when needed. Marie still likes to share her experience in staff meetings when it comes to the importance of excellent customer service.

When not at the office, Marie can be found camping in the summer, seeking out a sunny destination for a short winter break or an occasional escape to the mountains. 2019 was particularly exciting as she became a grandparent to not one, but three grandchildren in June.  Family get-togethers just got even more special. Marie’s favorite eyewear lines are Lafont and Kliik.

Mindy moved from Edgerton to Wainwright as a child and lived on an acreage until moving into town as an adult. She loves the small town feeling while still having so many opportunities.

She married her high school sweetheart and they have two beautiful little girls together. She loves to spend her weekends kayaking in the summer, there is often a kid in the front and a dog in the back. She is an avid science fiction and horror movie buff who is living a busy lifestyle chasing kids and traveling when she can.

Mindy joined Prairie Vision in 2018, and you can find her in all areas including Frame Gallery, Welcome Center and assisting the Doctor in the exam room. Mindy currently earned her Canadian Certified Optometric Assistant certificated. Her favorite part of the course has been learning more in-depth physiology of the eye and the medical aspect of the practice. Mindy’s favorite eyewear lines are FYSH, Michael Kors and Longchamp.

Shelly was born and raised in Drayton Valley, AB. After marrying her husband Rick, she moved to the family farm in Chauvin, AB. Together they thoroughly enjoyed the farm life and shared these experiences with their 3 daughters. In 2005, the Morrison Family moved to Wainwright enjoying all opportunities a new community presented. With two children away at college she decided to enter the workforce and embrace on the opportunity to join the Prairie Vision Team as an Optometric Assistant.

“I am truly blessed with wonderful co-workers who help me provide the best service for our clients and show my true passion to help others feel their best.” When Shelly is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, watching sports, beach escapes and relaxing at the lake. Shelly’s favorite eyewear lines are Etnia Barcelona and FYSH.

Theresa was born and raised in Wainwright, who is happily married to her husband and is a mother to 4 wonderful daughters whom keep life busy and always interesting.

In 2012 Theresa joined Prairie Vision team starting as a Lab technician, and eventually took on the role as Frame Gallery Supervisor. Theresa earned her Optometric Assistant Accreditation in 2014 and continues to build her wealth of knowledge every day helping with eyewear repairs, adjustments and stylish frame selections.

When she is not at work you will find her most days during the winter following her children to their various sports and activities and in the summer her spare time is enjoyed camping, gardening, reading and the occasional run. Theresa’s favorite eyewear lines are Longchamp and Michael Kors.

Tracie has been a part of Prairie Vision since 2005 and is happy that she hung in thru many changes. She is thrilled to be a “part of such a wonderful team!!” Tracie obtained her Optometric Assistant Certification in 2007 and continues improving her skills with continuing education.

When not at the office, she enjoys inspiring others to fulfill their dreams, while working on her own. Most importantly, spending time with family and friends, playing in the garden and making memories with her husband. Tracie’s favorite eyewear line is Longchamp

Valerie grew up in the Bonnyville area and moved to the Wainwright area in 2004 when her husband got offered a trucking job. Valerie joined that Prairie Vision family in 2013 and mainly has worked in pretest but is excited to learn other aspects of the office.

When not at the office, Valerie can be found spending time with her family, camping, and collecting teacups. Valerie’s favorite eyewear line is FYSH.

Amanda was born and raised in Wainwright and is very happy to call this small-town home. She has been working since graduating high school and joined the Prairie Vision team in 2018. Amanda is never bored, being kept on her toes with her son and is recently earned her Canadian Certified Optometric Assistant certificate. Currently you will mainly find her in the exam room assisting the Doctors, as well in the Frame Gallery.

Amanda enjoys working with the people in our community and has found a passion in helping people and making them feel good. She is “so proud to work with the wonderful and supportive women at Prairie Vision”.

When she is not working, you can find her in the kitchen cooking and baking, relaxing on the couch reading or going on adventures with her family. Amanda’s favorite eyewear lines are Etnia Barcelona and FYSH.

Andrea was born and raised in the suburbs of Toronto. After high school she went on to the University of Ontario Institute of Technology in Oshawa Ontario and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Justice Policy, one semester of which was at the University of Northampton in England. She also earned a diploma in Social Service Work from St. Lawrence College in Kingston, Ontario. She moved to Wainwright in the summer of 2012, and with Prairie Vision since January of 2014. Since then, Andrea completed the Certified Canadian Optometric Assistant course in the spring of 2015.

“I love working with this wonderful group of people at Prairie Vision and I am passionate about helping the people of this great community see their best!” In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their crazy pets, Sadie the English Bulldog and Raj and Cornelius the cats.
